A job incumbent will be required to perform the following core tasks:
performs the carpentry required for installation of locks and related hardware, such as electronic access control systems and panic exit devices.
handles door locks, padlocks, cabinet locks, utility locks, combination locks, and related hardware like panic exit devices, mortise locks, catches, fasteners, and door closers. Also handles adjustments, maintenance, repairs, and replacements.
creates master key systems with multiple levels.
changes the cylinders of locks so that up to five different keys can be used.
uses power tools like a key-cutting machine, power drill, power saw, grinder, and welding equipment.
changes locker combination numbers and records them in an official register.
uses code machines and code systems to change lock combinations.
repairs safes and lock systems for safes.
develops procedures to prevent theft and break-ins.
removes or opens locks that can’t be opened normally.
makes reports and requisitions as needed.
as assigned, performs related duties.

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: evidence of equivalent educational proficiency or high school graduation.

EXPERIENCE: two years of locksmithing experience.

SPECIAL: a valid driver’s license to legally drive a car and use a car in the state of California.

Particular Physical Needs:
Ability to hear a problem with a lock, be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds, be able to see what is going on, and be able to climb ladders up to 20 feet are desirable qualifications.

The ideal candidate will have a wide range of technical skills and a solid understanding of:
Codes and safety regulations pertaining to exits and locks in the event of a fire and for the protection of disabled people Electronic access control systems and associated software and hardware. Additionally, we are looking for candidates who have demonstrated the ability to:
Utilize the power tools of the locksmith trade, such as the carpentry tools needed to install locks and panic devices, Diagnose repair needs by listening to and feeling the movement of internal parts, Operate the power machinery of the locksmith trade, Fabricate lock parts, Troubleshoot and repair electronic and mechanical lock malfunctions, and Work effectively with school personnel.
