A Certified Veterinary Technician is needed at Blue Cross Animal Hospital to join our expanding team!

5328 Lyndale Ave. S., Minneapolis, MN 55419 This is an exciting opportunity for a qualified Veterinary Technician to assist with the transition to a stunning, brand-new, cutting-edge facility that is being constructed next door to our existing hospital.

There will be brand-new medical equipment, multiple dental and surgical suites, nine exam rooms, and the most up-to-date technology in the new hospital!

Blue Cross Animal Hospital has been a reliable community fixture in southwest Minneapolis for more than ninety years. Throughout their pet’s life, we provide compassionate care to our clients and patients. Details about the shift:
It is necessary to be available all the time, including Saturday shifts.

Job Description: In accordance with hospital policy and procedures, the Certified Veterinary Technician leads and trains the medical support staff in the operation of a small animal facility. In addition, the Certified Veterinary Technician provides medical care to patients in accordance with the veterinary practice act. The Certified Veterinary Technician will have excellent organizational and attention to detail skills, as well as the ability to communicate effectively with clients and other members of the team.

Under the direction and supervision of a DVM, provide patient care.
Maintain excellent communication with customers.
In the patient record, accurately record all pertinent medical, client, and case-related information using appropriate grammar, terms, and information.
With patients, go over estimates, medical records, or instructions for discharge.
Answer client inquiries regarding routine procedures and basic animal care questions; confidently answer clients’ medical inquiries and, when necessary, direct them to veterinarians.

Qualifications:
Skills, knowledge, and abilities that are required:

A wide range of skills, including but not limited to those in the laboratory, pharmacy, radiology, surgery, dental, and nursing, are required.
ability to deal with a fast-paced environment and to show patience and composure in stressful situations.
ability to function effectively and calmly during a medical emergency.
capability to administer SQ, IM, and IV injections.
ability to easily explain to clients the usage, dosage, and most common side effects of commonly used prescription drugs.
ability to notify veterinarians of changes in a patient’s symptoms or issues while they are in the hospital, as well as knowledge of the most common states of anesthesia and recovery.
ability to properly extubate, keep an eye on a patient’s temperature, and get them out of anesthesia.
To be able to effectively carry out the responsibilities, the employee needs to have mental processes for reasoning, remembering, math, and the ability to read, write, and speak English.
The worker needs to feel comfortable around animals.

Experience and education required:

An equivalent high school diploma is required.
A license from the state Department of Regulation is required.
Requires at least one year of experience in the veterinary industry.

Physical necessities:

The employee must be able to stand, walk, stoop, kneel, crouch, and climb, as well as lift, carry, and move more than 50 pounds with a coworker.
The employee must be able to sit, stand, and walk for long periods of time on hard floor surfaces.
In order to carry out tasks in a hospital setting, the employee must have sufficient ambulatory skills.
The worker must be able to work in a noisy environment with equipment and animal noises that can be moderately loud.
The employee will occasionally be exposed to anesthesia, radiation, biological hazards, medication/controlled substances, and a variety of pets that may bite or scratch.

The employee must be able to understand client conversations, veterinary patients, and verbal instructions. The employee must be able to adjust focus and have specific vision abilities like close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
To use a keyboard and operate equipment, the employee must have good hand-eye coordination, arm-hand-finger dexterity, and visual acuity.

Travel is needed: Possibly for vendor visits and associate education, minimal travel is required.
