Detailed description of the position
Brown University’s Population Studies and Training Center (PSTC) is looking for a Lead Data Analyst to assist Professor Emily Oster in creating extensive state assessment datasets for the Zelma State Assessment Data Repository, which is a component of zelma.ai.

Zelma, based at Brown University, is the leading repository of standardized student assessment data from all 50 states and the District of Columbia for grades 3 through 8. Zelma, which went live in December 2023, combines district and school identifiers used by the National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) with publicly available state assessment data from state education agencies (SEAs). The data are cleaned and organized into a consistent file format. The repository makes it easier for researchers to use comprehensive longitudinal datasets to investigate and support student educational outcomes more effectively.

The Lead Data Analyst will concentrate on the timely data integration and data cleaning of Zelma datasets. Together with the larger Zelma team, they will also be crucial in enhancing the project’s capacity to incorporate newly released assessment data into the repository.

This 37.5-hour-per-week, grant-funded position has a fixed term of one year and is entirely remote. Based on satisfactory work performance and the source of funding, renewal is possible.
